For Your Desktop

Each month, Less Than a Shoestring will offer a new, free desktop background for you to download, featuring a photograph from my travels and that month’s calendar for easy reference. The backgrounds should fit the majority of screens. If you find that the calendar is cut off or otherwise wonky on your monitor, please send a message via the contact form.

  • How to get the image from this page to your desktop!

+ Click on the image to open full size in a new window. Allow the image to load completely.

+ Right (or ctrl-) click on the image.

+ Save the image [hint: putting it on the desktop makes it easier to find].

+ Right (or ctrl-) click on the saved file.  Select “Set as Wallpaper” or “Set as Desktop Background” or “Use Image as Desktop” from the menu. The centered image should fill the screen without stretching.

+ Check desktop for new wallpaper. If there are black margins on the sides of the image, select a different size and repeat the steps until the image fits the window.

+ Windows Vista users, head to Control Panel > Personalization > Desktop Background; Windows XP, try Settings > Control Panel > Display > Desktop. Use the dialog box to browse to the downloaded image.

+ Mac users, go to System Preferences > Desktop and Screen Saver > Desktop. Drag the downloaded image onto the “Current Desktop” window image.

I hope you enjoy this feature and welcome your feedback!
