January 1 marked the start of a six-month French experiment with free museum entry at a variety of cultural institutions. If you can read French, check out the press release here. For the rest of you, more info after the jump.

Officially 14 museums across the country are participating.

In and around Paris:

The following museums will offer free entry for 18 to 26 year-olds one evening per week:

Across France:

There has been quite a bit of criticism in France about this “experiment” already, so there’s no guarantee it will be extended beyond the end of June 2008. If you’ll be in France between now and then, be sure to take advantage of the French taxpayers’ generosity!
